WILTSHIRE champions South Wilts progressed through their regional play-off game and into the ECB’s South West of England indoor cricket finals day with a closely-contested 12-run victory over kings of Somerset, Wellington.

Put into bat, South Wilts made 115 from their 12 overs with Rob Pittman (29), Joe Cranch (25) and Christian Pain (24) all unbeaten.

Defending what seemed to be a slightly above par score, all of the South Wilts bowlers were in good form and with only Adam Sparks getting to grips with the bowling making a valiant 44, Wellington closed on 102 all out in the last over.

South Wilts will now travel back down to Somerset’s indoor school at Taunton on Sunday, March 1 where they will face either the Cornwall or Devon champions. The coveted prize on offer for the winners of the regional finals day is a trip to Lords in late March.

SOUTH Wilts youngsters have hit form in the NatWest Under-16 Indoor Cricket League at the Ageas Bowl – just as their season has ended.

A disappointing winter, in which the Bemerton outfit won only four of their 11 matches, ended on a positive note.

They posted a formidable 154-4 before beating play-off contenders OTs & Romsey by 34 runs, and then comfortably overhauled an East Hants score of 110-3 to win by three wickets.
