WILTSHIRE crashed to a 72-run defeat against Wales in the first round of the Unicorns Knock Out Trophy.
After an opening stand of 77 in eight overs, Michael Claydon (117) and G Ansell (82) put on 121 for the second wicket. Wiltshire’s spinners put a brake on the run rate but Wales still made a challenging score. Nick Harrison took three for 73, Tom Morton three for 76 and Ed Young two for 44.
In reply, Wiltshire made a good start with Tom Morton (59) and Ed Kilbee (27) putting on 85 for the first wicket but then Wales’ spinners took the upper hand and Wiltshire collapsed to 147 for five wickets, before Neil Clark (42) and Michael Bates (56) put on 69 for the sixth wicket.
Wiltshire were all out for 280 in Newport with 5.4 overs left.
South Wilts skipper Morton has been listed in the county’s next group match against Dorset at Warminster on Sunday (11am).
