SOUTH Wilts seconds opened their SEPCL Division 3 campaign with an eight-wicket demolition of Basingstoke & North Hants seconds.

Dom Webb took 4-34 as the visiting top order crumbled. Skipper Chris Chandler gave them hope with a handy 45 but Marc Burton’s return ended the innings as he took 3-32. The innings took just 35.2 overs as Basingstoke were bowled out for 138.

Will Wade (52no) and Joe Cranch (51) saw South Wilts home in just 30 overs as Both hit 10 boundaries each to ensure their side took maximum points. Under-14 Miles Kantolinna struck another ton as South Wilts thirds ended their pre-season with a six wicket win over Winterbourne.

Mani Gurung (50) and Matt Shellum (40) top scored as the visitors posted 204-8. Chris Wheeler (2-30) and Matt Burton (2-10) took the bowling honours. Kantolinna struck 16 boundaries in a composed 105no as the hosts won with 8.3 overs to go. Steve Kidd (36) and Daren Sargent (28) contributed well. The fourths lost to Winterbourne 2nds. Henry Smith hit 65no as a very young South Wilts’ side finished on 149-8 in pursuit of 172-7. Earlier James Wade (2-43) and Ollie Hill (2-34) took a couple of wickets each.
