TOM Morton's pivotal part in South Wilts' rip-roaring year just got better.

The skipper was selected in All Out Cricket (AOC) magazine's ECB Premier League team of the year and front cover of this month's edition after he guided South Wilts to a fourth successive title.

On the Lower Bemerton outfit's quest to success, he smashed 979 runs - the highest total scored in a campaign by a non-overseas player in SEPCL history and only 91 runs short of the all-time record held by New Zealander Neal Parlane from BAT Sports.

In addition, his side received an honourable mention in the Club of the Year category, with Bath Wanderers CC, in Somerset, collecting the main prize.

Morton, among the club cricketers who took centre stage on the magazine's front cover for the first time in its 13-year history, says it was a proud moment.

"I'm extremely pleased to have been selected in All Out Cricket magazine's team of the year," he said.

"There looks to be some top players in that side so I’m proud to be considered among them."

"When I agreed to go up to Lord's I had no idea it would be on the front cover and turn out as well as it has.

"The guys at AOC were fantastic, it was clearly not a natural situation for us, but still a thoroughly enjoyable day. It is certainly a copy to keep hold of."

All Out Cricket provides content for recreational cricket players throughout the year. The monthly Clubber and Performance sections include coaching, fitness, nutrition and fitness tips as well as a round-up of news from around the country.

Apart from being included in the publication for cricket goers, Morton still reflects on fond memories from a season which saw South Wilts win a third consecutive Southern Electric twenty20 cup - in dramatic fashion.

The final was all square under the floodlights in Ageas Bowl until the last ball was thrown.

Morton, who has been with the trophy-scooping club for a decade, explained.

"The most exciting moment was, without doubt, with Jack Mynott hitting a six off the last ball of the game in the t20 final at the Ageas Bowl. This was against a strong Havant side and brilliant to be a part of."

"On a personal note, I would say my highlight was sharing a record partnership of 300 with my long-standing teammate, James Hayward, scoring 164 of them in a title-decider was really pleasing.
