SOUTH Wilts' junior sides got off to a fantastic winning start in their first Wiltshire Youth Cricket League matches on Sunday.

The Under-15s enjoyed a 58-run win at Purton.

Skipper James Wade got the visitors off to a flying start before he was out in the 13th over with the score already on 106.

Jack Stearman, who had been a spectator for much of the early blitz, went on to hit a first South Wilts ton, finishing on a brilliant 111 not out as South Wilts declared on 236-3 off 35 overs.

Purton put up a spirited chase given the extra five overs following South Wilts' declaration. Sam Bull struck a quick 41 to give the hosts hope and, while skipper Alex Duffell remained at the crease, Purton were still in with a chance.

In fact, with 100 needed off 15 overs with five wickets in hand, they would feel they were in the game. However, South Wilts rotated the bowlers and gradually made their way through the Purton batting. Two wickets from Lewis Wakeford helped and after Duffell was out for 55, Eddie Stagg finished the innings off with a double blast to leave Purton 178 all out.

The Under-13s comprehensively outplayed hosts Swindon to record a 181-run win. Skipper Edward Wade and Roly Glover put the home bowling to the sword.

Glover hit 52, his first South Wilts 50, while Wade went on to hit a superb century, finishing on 136.

South Wilts Under-11s, who actually had started a fortnight ago with a win over Burbage, secured a second win with a 115-run victory over Goatacre.

Ben Howgrave-Graham struck a second successive 50 and with 34 from Will Langdown together with 25 each for Will Green and Matt Falconer, South Wilts posted 163-4 off their 20 overs.

South Wilts Under-11 Bs, a mix of Under 11-s and Under 9-s, produced a superb opening result to win at Trowbridge.

Accurate bowling restricted the hosts to 61-4, a score that South Wilts reached four wickets down with six overs to spare.
