YOUNGSTERS Edward Wade (117) and Ben Richards (118) shared a double century partnership as South Wilts fourths piled up 305-4 against visiting Winton thirds in Regional Division 2 West.

The pair coasted to 149-3 at the 21 halfway mark and realised there was a ton for each of them if they could keep their concentration in the humid conditions. Their landmarks duly arrived in the 38th over as first 12-year-old Wade and then two balls later Richards, 16, reached their centuries.

Richards was run out just before the close of the innings for a superb 118, part of a 229 run partnership. Wade finished unbeaten on 117 as the hosts posted 305-4.

The visitors' misery was not complete though, as Akram Ghauri and George Plank ripped through the top order. Akram made the breakthrough in the fifth over before Plank, who had repeatedly gone past the edge in his first two overs, finally found the edge of a flashing drive and Chris Chaddock took a fine catch on the third man boundary. Plank was simply too quick for the visiting batsmen and picked up his second wicket two balls later. It was 6-4 in the seventh over as off-spinner Akram, who had picked up six wickets in last week's win at Steeple Langford, span another past the bat. The eighth over brought no reprieve as Plank located the stumps twice more to finish his spell with 4-11. When Akram (3-12) took his third wicket in the ninth over, Winton had slipped to 18-7.

A few lusty blows later and it was all over as Paul Wylie and Ben Higton took a wicket each and Winton were all out for just 34 in 13.3 overs.

Elsewhere, South Wilts' thirds went down at M & T by five wickets in County Division 3 North.
