TWO junior South Wilts teams have scooped silverware.

The under 13s and 15s both won their Wiltshire County Cup finals after turning in impressive performances.

The under 15s played their rescheduled final on Monday at home to Corsham.

Batting first, the hosts endured a torrid start with Corsham bowling a tight line and the batsmen struggling to find any gaps. In fact, they had crawled to 20-2 off eight overs (Will Sayers 4-1-4-2) and faced an uphill battle to set a challenging score.

Lewis Wakeford changed all that with a boundary blitz as he raced to 51 retired. His efforts saw South Wilts to 97-4 off 17, before they tailed off to 111-7 off their full 20 overs.

Corsham were set back immediately as James Wade cleaned up Luke Draper first ball, but the visitors batted well to reach 30-1 off five overs and put themselves firmly in the driving seat.

With the ball repeatedly being edged to the boundary, South Wilts must have been wondering if it was not to be their night, but the dismissal of Max Ojomoh, who added 20 runs to his 4-18 with the ball, by Tom Swanton who changed the complexion of the match. Corsham never again looked like chasing the score down and although they were only ever a couple of big overs away from a win, it never looked like happening and they were bowled out off the last ball for 99.

Wakeford, Ben Huntley and Chris Chaddock each picked up two wickets, while Dan Watts ended on 33no for Corsham.

The under 13s faced a tricky away trip to Winsley for their final and batting first posted 123-5 off their 20 overs. A quick 22 from Roly Glover, with 30s retired from Ed Wade and George Milton helped post a good score.

Winsley were always in the hunt due to their attacking intent coupled with missed catches from South Wilts fielders. However, two wickets each from Nat Burke and Ben Higton plus 4 run outs saw Winsley fall 10 runs short as they were bowled out off the last ball.

Both teams now face play-offs in their bids to reach the regional finals. The under 13s will host Gloucestershire winners Cirencester while the under 15s will visit Dorset winners Broadstone this weekend and if successful a further round at Somerset winners Glastonbury.
