WILLIAM Wade starred as South Wilts seconds dented Calmore Sports’ Southern Premier League Division 2 promotion hopes, writes Mike Vimpany.

Rested from first team action, the teenage spin all-rounder enjoyed some valuable time with the ball and later at the crease as South Wilts romped to a seven-wicket win at Bemerton.

Second-placed Calmore never recovered from an early three-wicket blast by Rob Pittman (3-11), who removed skipper Mark Lavelle, Matt Hardy and Australian Ben Moss with the new ball to leave the visitors a desperate 17-3.

Teenage left-hander Ben Johns (41) responded and Michael Cook (28) rallied the middle-order, but South Wilts kept chipping away, with Wade (3-43) and Tom Pearce (2-36) pegging the visitors to 174-9.

Left-armer Steve Wright (0-6) sent down a miserly ten-over spell, but South Wilts were never in a rush.

An unbeaten 77 from Wade, who has recently been called up to represent Wiltshire, and Sam Arnold (46 not out) shared an unbeaten century stand to guide the Salisbury club home with seven overs to spare.
