SOUTH Wilts crashed to a humiliating nine-wicket defeat against Preston Nomads in the ECB NatWest Club T20 Blast regional semi-finals at Bemerton, writes Mike Vimpany.
Shot out for a meagre 88, they were beaten by the Sussex side in just 46 balls.
They paid the penalty for skipper James Hayward's curious decision to bat first under cloudy skies at 10am and were taken apart by left-armer Tim Moses, who took the first four wickets for only 15 runs.
Preston Nomads thrived in the bowler friendly conditions, with teenage Jersey talent Jonty Jenner (2-11) and Stephen Rigg (2-21) sharing four of the other wickets.
Only Joe Cranch (21) and Tom Pearce (16) got into double figures in a dismal South Wilts show.
Nomads raced home inside eight overs - with the Bemerton bowling being struck for two sixes and 13 fours.
Ollie Gatting, younger brother of ex-Hampshire cricketer Steve Gatting, led the way with a blistering 52, while Dan Phillips hit 25.
