SOUTH Wilts Under 15s moved a step closer to the Wiltshire Youth League title after snatching victory in a thriller with Corsham.

Corsham faced the long trip home on Sunday evening wondering how they had failed to win a game they dominated for most of the day.

After asking South Wilts to bat first, they picked up regular wickets to have the hosts in trouble at 69-4 with only Jack Stearman (40) looking in any sort of form as Will Sayers notched 3-24.

Every time South Wilts looked like getting a partnership going, a wicket fell and at 117-9 South Wilts were in dire straits with Luke Draper and Max Ojomoh each picking up two wickets. However, a handy last wicket stand between Jayden Atkinson (32no) and Freddie Phillips added 28 crucial runs.

145 all out was a massively under par score but it gave the home side something to bowl at.

Despite Atkinson picking up the early prize wicket of Charley Reed, Corsham looked in little trouble as they eased to 54-1. Atkinson picked up his second with the dismissal of Draper (24) but as the score moved to 97-2 there seemed little prospect of a turn around in fortunes.

However, 97-2 became 99-5 as James Wade removed Callum Sandell (28) and Jack Stearman (2-15) snared Ojomoh (26) and George Freeman. For the first time in the game South Wilts had a sniff of a chance but Corsham pair Charlie Epps and Jack Humphreys batted sensibly to ease the score to 128-5 with just 18 needed.

South Wilts kept trying new bowlers striving for the breakthrough and Ben Huntley produced the goods as he clean bowled Humphreys (12).

Corsham were still well on top though and had reached 139-6 after 35 overs with just 7 needed off 9 overs with four wickets left. South Wilts had tried their hearts out but it suddenly all changed.

Ben Huntley picked up a second wicket as he bowled the defiant Epps (17) before Atkinson trapped Sayers in front. Huntley sensed the door was open and barged straight through it as he had Harbour-Burgess lbw and then Storey caught to produce an astonishing finish. 4 wickets had fallen for no runs and South Wilts won by 6 runs.

Huntley's astonishing burst saw him take 4-3-4-4 whilst man of the match Atkinson took 3-13 off 9 overs.

All this followed an excellent win over East Devon Under 15s at Seaton Cricket Club. Atkinson was again to the fore as he hot an unbeaten 32 and took 4-21 as South Wilts won by 17 runs.

Charlie Smith (32), Chris Chaddock (29) and Ben Huntley (52) all contributed with Atkinson as South Wilts posted a decent 193-9 off 40 overs. The hosts reached 101-1 but Atkinson and James Wade (2-20) turned the game around to restrict East Devon to 176-7.
