RETIRING second team captain Tom Pearce has been named South Wilts’ Clubman of the Year.

The Fovant-based left-arm all-rounder, who has made more than 5,000 runs since joining South Wilts in his early teens, collected his award at the club’s recent presentation dinner.

“Pearcey has captained the last seven years, taking the side up from the Hampshire League and now into our cherished position," said club captain James Hayward.

“I have nothing but praise from him. His commitment has been outstanding and he’s taken our 2nd XI into their highest league ever.

“As a captain, he’s gone about his business in an unassuming manner, led by example and I know he has the respect of his team.

“I’d like to thank him for his efforts as captain and accept his decision that its now time for some new blood to lead the side. I look forward to seeing what Tom can do without the pressures of the captaincy – may be in the first team next summer.”

The father and son combination of Paul and Ben Draper, pictured, scooped the President’s award and Junior Clubman awards, respectively.
