Cruse stars in Shrewton win
Shrewton 303-9 bt OTs & Romsey 277 by 27 runs.
(Hampshire League - County Division Two).
SHREWTON secured a vital 27-run win against OTs & Romsey on a blistering hot day to help secure their league status.
The hosts elected to bat first on a fine looking wicket, but suffered a poor start.
Stuart Cruse then set about the OTs bowlers and the poor start was forgotten as he hit them to all parts of the ground.
M. Jenkins, 28, formed a partnership of 96 with Cruse for the fifth wicket before Cruse was finally removed having chalked up 154, which included 19 fours and eight sixes to help Shrewton close on 303-9 from their 45 overs.
The visitors made a good start scoring runs freely on the excellent batting surface.
A bowling change slowed the run-rate - as Darren Bentley, 2-35, and Mike Swabey, 1-20, took the pace off the ball, making it difficult for the batsmen to score. Dale Wright took three wickets in the closing overs to help remove OTs for 277 - I. Tulk, unbeaten on 91, proving their top scorer.
Shrewton head to the Isle of Wight on Saturday for a league game with Ryde.
