Bemerton out of FA Cup
KANE O’Keefe gave Bemerton Heath Harlequins the lead at home to Fareham Town in the FA Cup on Saturday, but that was as good as it got.
The visitors levelled before half-time with a disputed free kick and eventually ran out 4-1 winners. Ashley Tattersall, John Wilson, Sam Knight and Wayne Boud got their goals.
“We went 1-0 up and stopped playing,” lamented manager Ian Chalk.
“Grant Porter decided that football isn’t for him at the moment, so we had to play young Lee Newman-Judd in goal. No blame is attached to him though.
“We aren’t playing very well. We aren’t gelling or working hard enough, and if you drop ten per cent in this league, you get found out. Aaron Cook, Kane O’Keefe, Graham Mankin and Joe Sanger have played well, but it’s not enough.”
Former Shrewton United goalkeeper Chris Brewer has signed for Harlequins, having previously been registered with Winchester City, so he will be another option between the sticks.
Bemerton welcome Brockenhurst to Western Way on Saturday and then Sholing on Tuesday.
Cook, O’Keefe and Danny Young scored in the 3-3 home draw with Horndean last Tuesday, and a week previously, O’Keefe hit a hat-trick in the 6-0 home win over Bournemouth Poppies.
Sanger, Tom Roberts (penalty) and Seb Dawes got the others.
Heath lost again on Tuesday night, going down 2-1 at Blackfield & Langley.
Nathan Lynch and Alex Baldacchino (penalty) gave the home team a 2- 0 half-time lead before the visitors pulled one back from the spot.
