BEMERTON Heath Harlequins’ trip to Wroughton in the Wiltshire Senior Cup couldn’t have come at a better time, after five straight defeats in the league.

They boosted their confidence against the Wiltshire Premier outfit, racking up eight goals.

Graham Mankin got the first two and Danny Young matched that before half-time – and the plan was to match that after the break.

“At half-time, I gave them the target of eight,” said manager Ian Chalk, pictured right.

“Graham Mankin completed his hat-trick, Seb Dawes scored with a header, then Russell Jones scored two of the best goals you will see.

“He weaved in and out of seven players for the first one, then beat two or three before dummying and chipping the goalkeeper.

“It was nice to play against easier opponents and win because we have played four teams whom I think will finish in the top six recently.”

Kane O’Keefe, Tom Roberts and Dawes scored in the 4-3 defeat at Moneyfields last Tuesday.

Heath head to Horndean on Saturday, and entertain Locks Heath in the Russell Cotes Cup next Tuesday.

They have been drawn away to Wootton Bassett Town in the next round of the Senior Cup.

Downton will go to Southbrook, having been awarded a walkover on Saturday when Vale of Pewsey were unable to field a side.

The Robins lost out to an early Dougie Rowe penalty at Totton & Eling last Tuesday, and Danny Finnigan was sent off on the half hour. They are at home to Fawley on Saturday and Hamworthy United on Tuesday.

“We played well at Totton, and hit the bar, but it’s difficult to get anything from a game when you have ten men for an hour,” said boss Jeff Softley.

“It was probably one of our best performances.

We have a big game against Fawley now.”
