JOE Sanger hit six goals in a display his manager Ian Chalk described as ‘the most complete performance I have seen at this level’.

The division’s top scorers Bemerton Heath Harlequins put eight past Totton & Eling without reply, but it took until the 20th minute to break the deadlock. Ollie Roe’s left-wing cross was tapped in by Sanger, who made it 2-0 when he slotted under the goalkeeper from Kane O’Keefe’s pass.

The striker completed his hattrick with his most spectacular goal of the afternoon, an overhead kick from another Roe cross after 35 minutes. Five minutes later the Totton keeper threw the ball behind himself and although Sanger still had defenders to beat, in this mood he was never going to miss.

After the break, O’Keefe nodded Danny Young’s cross into Sanger’s path for his fifth, and Young got in on the act, drilling in from Steve Whitcher’s pass.

Substitute Seb Dawes ran from the halfway line and his shot deflected in for number seven, then Sanger capped his memorable day with a similar lengthy run culminating in a curled finish.

“It was a quite incredible performance by Joe and the side,” said Chalk.

“Everything we did went right.

Joe’s performance was the most complete I have seen at this level.

He had two cleared off the line and hit the bar too.

“He is enjoying his football and has a smile on his face. When he wants to play, he is unplayable. He was outstanding.”

On Sunday, a Bemerton futsal side won a tournament set up by Something Silly In June, the charity inspired by Chalk’s late brother Steve’s battle with Melanoma, raising around £500 for Factor50.
