IN-FORM Bemerton Heath Harlequins boss Ian Chalk believes knuckling down on “discipline” has been a key factor in their seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

Another set of back-to-back wins cemented seventh position in Wessex Premier, with their latest victory causing a few surprises at leaders Winchester City.

Jack Slade and Seb Dawes found the net to complete a 2-0 victory over ten-man Winchester at the Denplan Ground.

“We've worked really hard on our discipline of late and it's reaping rewards as we seem to be getting more out of the games,” Chalk told the Journal.

“It allows us to concentrate on our game more instead of constantly being frustrated by decisions. The young lads who have come in to the squad have played fantastically well and we will continue to give them the chance to impress.

With Aaron Cook and Ollie Roe on their way back from injury, the squad will soon be back to a more manageable level as at present we only have 12 players and to perform as we are is even more impressive.”

Slade continues to fire on all cylinders with his brace, and goals from Joe Sanger and Samuel Carter, at home to Fareham Town on Saturday.

The superb pitch at Western Way allowed Bemerton to display free-flowing football which accounted for a terrific 4-2 victory.

Chalk added: “I was very pleased with the second half performance in particular. The first half was a little flat but we picked it up in the second and deservedly took the three points. Fareham are a good side with a physical approach but we dealt with that really well and kept our discipline throughout the game.” Bemerton go to Totton & Eling on Saturday (3pm).

l Second from bottom Downton missed out on the chance to edge the six-points up for grabs with fellow strugglers Fawley as the game was postponed prior to kick-off.

However, Declan McGregor helped them to a vital point at home to Moneyfields on Tuesday night. They welcome AFC Portchester to Wick Lane on Saturday afternoon, in which former White Jake Thomson could be involved for the visitors.

l In Sydenhams Division One, Amesbury Town, fresh from their 6-2 win over Andover Street where Kristian Greer netted a hat trick, go to Laverstock and Ford on Saturday (3pm). The Journal will bring you report and photos from the derby.
