IAN Chalk will put his Wessex Premier nous to good use next season after committing to another term as Bemerton Heath Harlequins boss.

The ex-Salisbury City footballer engineered a seventh-place finish and will be looking to bolster his squad at Western Way in the upcoming weeks.

They completed their season with 71 points with their last three points coming on the final day of the campaign at third-placed Folland Sports, who had ten men.

Chalk described the victory, and a clean sheet, as one of the best performances he has ever witnessed.

“I'm reasonably pleased with the seventh place considering all the sides above us, excluding Folland Sports, have invested far more than we have,” Chalk claimed.

“We struggled to maintain a level of consistency but we did produce some fantastic performances throughout the season, especially the 2-2 draw at home to Sholing where they equalised with the last kick of the game, and the 2-0 victory at Folland’s on the final day.

This victory was especially pleasing as Folland’s had won 16 of their last 17 games, drawing the other, and were looking unbeatable. Not only did we win, but we had to play an hour with 10 men following the dismissal of Joe Sanger.

“It has to be one of the best displays I have ever seen from any side I've been involved with,” he hailed.

Chalk is now looking forward to a fortnight’s rest before he returns for pre-season preparations.

“I will once again be here next season and hopefully the majority of the squad will be as well,” added Chalk.

“It's inevitable that some players will leave for various reasons but we will recruit as well with the emphasis on local players.

We run a squad of 16 players and 12 have committed already, which is pleasing.”

“We can all have a bit of time off, two weeks for me, and then it’s back to the grindstone. Pre-season will start first week of July.”
