Laverstock casualties of high-flying Ringwood

First published in Wessex League by

INCONSISTENCY troubled Laverstock and Ford for the third time in four matches at the hands of a new-look Ringwood Town.

Russ Jones twice missed the target in one-on-one scenarios, and those squandered chances proved costly as Ringwood scored against the run of play. Sam Cummings made the most of keeper Lee Newman-Judd’s error from a long throw-in.

And Ringwood doubled their lead directly at the start of the second half, this time Newman-Judd’s misjudged back pass fell to the feet of Mark Pudney, who lobbed the luckless keeper from 35 yards.

The game became far more stretched from this stage with Laverstock seeking a quick reply but being unable to get a much-needed breakthrough.

The 2-0 defeat in Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Division One left manager Robbie Lakeman despondent.

He said: “To be honest it’s the same old story with us. We can put in a good performance one week and then not turn up the next.

“Until we can start to put good performances and wins together, we will remain a mediocre side.

“It’s so frustrating as the manager because you can see the potential in the side but getting the players to realise it is almost impossible at the moment.

“We now have two weeks off from the league to put things right so we will work hard to do that.”

Ringwood, who have Christopher Bailey, James Barwood, George Bratt and Liam Taylor this season, travel to East Cowes Victoria on Saturday in the league (3pm).

  • Ringwood were knocked out of the Hampshire Senior Cup after a 3-1 loss to Folland Sports on Tuesday evening.
