SIMPLE errors cost Laverstock and Ford dearly on Saturday, according to boss Robbie Lakeman, pictured, whose side was put to the sword six times at home to Cowes Sports.

Some precise and direct attacking play, coupled with some less than convincing defending by the hosts, saw Cowes stride into an early lead and looked dangerous through each attack, going into the break 4-0 up and cruising.

The second half was about damage limitation for the beleaguered home side who rarely caused problems in front of the islanders’ goal. Cowes effortlessly added two more in the second period to cap off a convincing win against a below-par Laverstock.

“We just weren't good enough on Saturday and some basic errors cost us dearly,” Lakeman reflected.

“Compared to last week’s performance, we looked like a totally different team. Yet again I am left to talk about our lack of consistency and, until we can reach the level of performance we know we are capable of, we will continue to win one week and lose the next.”

Laverstock now enter a trio of cup games, starting with a home clash to Alresford Town (3pm).

Lakeman added: “We now have three tricky cup games to contend with. I would rather we could get back to the league games but these will prove a distraction from that and hopefully we can use them to put things right.”
