AMESBURY Town are through to the semifinal of the Wiltshire Senior Cup after coming from behind to score a late winner away at Warminster.

It was a proud moment for Cameron Roach who coolly slotted home the winner ten minutes from time on his first senior start.

In the first-half Amesbury were forced into a rearguard battle to stay in the game but fell to an early 20th minute goal.

The home team dominated the first-half but Amesbury doggedly held on until the break.

After half-time the visitors came out fighting and Nick Turpin struck after 48 minutes and despite hitting the woodwork three times they could not force the winner until Roach’s calm winner.

“We are obviously delighted to progress to the semi final of the senior cup,” manager Gareth Horner said.

“We had to make a few changes on Saturday and gave Cameron Roach his first start and he scored the winner.

“It's a great credit to our youth team as we had three of them start on Saturday and none of them let us down.

“It took a while for us to get going and for the first 45 minutes we were second best.

“The players reacted to what was said at half time and we controlled the second period hitting the woodwork three times and scoring twice. As I said to them afterwards that's two semi-finals and we’re third in the league.

That's great credit to them.

“In my opinion the hard work starts now.”
