THE chairman of high-flying Amesbury Town says it will be a “sad day” when he resigns from the club he has spent the past 15 years working in various roles.

Jason Cameron, inset, has announced his departure from Bonnymead Park after his sixyear tenure as chairman to fulfil family commitments.

During his time at the club, which is gunning for promotion from Wessex Division One, the 42-year-old spent five years as treasurer and more than three years on the committee.

“The reason I am leaving is for family reasons,” the MOD worker told Journal sport.

“It may seem very strange when you look at our current position but the work carried out behind the scenes is enormous and I feel it is time for me to step aside but will always help whoever takes over.”

Cameron has worked with ten managers and after sacking nine, he came across Gareth Horner who he says is the best manager he’s ever worked with.

When Cameron leaves, the secretary, treasurer and vice-chairman, Spencer Mulholland will be leaving as well.

Cameron added: “My last day will be May 2 at presentation night.

The club is financially secure and is an excellent family club.

“Next year, if we get promoted, which I think we definitely will, the committee needs to double in size.

“I will still be going to 90 per cent of the games next campaign.

“It’s going to be a sad day when I leave but I wish everyone the best of luck in the future.”

The club, founded in 1904, is now seeking a new chairman and anyone interested in taking over the role should get in touch with Cameron.
