INSTINCTIVE super signing David Jerrard made a memorable debut for Bemerton Heath Harlequins after smashing a brace for his side who twice came from behind to win 3-2 on the Isle of Wight in Wessex Premier.

Newcomer Jerrard, who signed last week for Graham Kemp's men, popped up with two terrific second half goals to stun Newport (IOW).

In the slippery conditions following heavy rainfall, Newport went ahead after 14 minutes when Jordan Browne worked the ball down the left before firing it across the face of the goal and Matt Evans, who was unmarked at the far post, steered it into the net.

But Harlequins hit back just five minutes later after Scott Joyce, lurking at the far post.

Newport continued to attack and restored the lead on 29 minutes. A shot from Matt Evans was turned away at the base of the post by Max Frampton. Newport played the resultant corner short and the ball eventually fell to George Colson who rifled the ball into the net from 15 yards.

Bemerton clawed their way back into the game after the restart and midway through the second half Jerrard, who played at Dorchester when Kemp was manager, provided a timely 35-yarded lob over Cameron Farley.

Bemerton thought they had poached it with eight minutes left on the clock when they got the ball over the line following a foul on a Newport defender.

But they did have the final say, however, in the 92nd minute.

A pass slipped into the feet of an unmarked Jerrard who kept his nerve to slot past Cameron Farley.

Newport remain eighth whilst Bemerton Heath move up to 13th.
