WARY Gareth Horner is conscious that a collection of his high-calibre talent could be on rival clubs’ shopping list this summer but insists he wouldn’t block them from boosting their careers.

The Amesbury Town boss has saluted the likes of Eddie Perrett, Danny Finnigan, Matt Cox and Nic Turpin, who he thinks could be targeted in the transfer market by cash-handy clubs in the Wessex League.

Those four and others could be making their last appearances for the Blues in their

season finale on Saturday at Bonnymead Park.

If they dodge defeat against directly-below New Milton Town (3pm), fourth place will be secured to top a fine season in Division One.

“A vast majority of the lads have stuck with it and that has reaped its own rewards and we have added to it along the way.

“We have never made drastic changes and only added players that would improve us.

“I can only thank the players that have stayed like Eddie Perrett, Danny Finnigan, Matt Cox and Nic Turpin, which shows you don’t need a budget to attract the best players in the area. With success comes the vultures of clubs from higher leagues, and as

we have throughout the season it wouldn’t surprise me if some of the lads are approached as soon

as the final ball is kicked if they haven’t been already.”

“If the opportunity comes I certainly wouldn’t stand in their way and would encourage them to play at the highest level possible.”

“I will look to make some additions in the summer in certain areas and hopefully we will be in the mix again next year but a lot will happen between now and August.”

Downton also sign off their league campaign at home to Romsey Town (3pm).
