AMESBURY Town were bathed in glory after winning the Salisbury Hospital Cup for the tenth time.

On-the-rise Blues wrote a new chapter in their history books, a fortnight after recording their highest ever finish in Wessex Division One, with a 5-0 thumping of Pewsey Vale.

A hat-trick from Nic Turpin and goals from Chris Ward and Danny Finnigan completed a fine night at Bemerton Heath Harlequins’ Western Way, where 655 spectators turned up.

Trophy-lifting manager Gareth Horner says the achievement highlights the marvellous season they’ve had.

“Friday night was a fitting end to a terrific season,” Horner said.

“Although we would have been favourites going into the game, Pewsey were a much-changed side to the one we beat a few weeks back. I had a good chat to the lads beforehand and I just wanted us to settle into the game but like most cup finals it was played at 100mph!

“We were not fantastic in the first half but went in 2-0 ahead and again I just reiterated at half time that we needed to be more composed on the ball. This time they listened and we eventually ran out comfortable winners.”

“I can’t praise the players highly enough this season, we have seen outstanding prospects develop this year and I can only hope we all push on together and have another go next year. I would like to thank the committee and particularly leaving chairman (Jason Cameron)for giving me the opportunity as first team manager.”

Amesbury have a friendly with a young AFC Bournemouth side on July 21.
