TWO rival clubs from the Wessex League will go face-to-face in a stand-out FA Cup tie.

Wessex Division One outfit Amesbury Town have been drawn at home to Premier side Bemerton Heath Harlequins in the extra preliminary round of the famous competition.

The second week of the new season (August 15) will see them clash at Bonnymead Park, and the winner will pocket £1,500 from the FA’s prize fund and face an away trip to either big-spending Blackfield and Langley or Team Solent in the next round.

Blues boss Gareth Horner believes it has the ingredients to be a gripping showdown.

“It’s a fantastic draw for both clubs in the FA Cup and will be a fantastic day,” he said.

“We are happy to be back in the competition and, although it will be a tough game for us, we will certainly enjoy it.”

Also speaking to JournalSport, Horner’s counterpart, Kemp, said: “It’ll be nice. Hopefully people will come and support us.”

In the FA Vase, Harlequins are one of four Salisbury clubs to draw an away trip, with the visit to Sherborne. The Western Way boss thinks it’s a competition which will galvanise his squad.

He added: “It’s import we hit the ground running and start well.

“Teams who do well tend to start early. We can build momentum with three or four good rounds, and that can build team spirit.”

Salisbury FC, unable to enter the FA Cup due to being a start-up club, face a racecourse derby with Wincanton Town in the vase. Odland Abbotonians host Downton and Amesbury go to Cadbury Heath.

All ties are scheduled to be played on the weekend of September 5.

Winners will bank £600.
