THE addition of Salisbury FC to the Wessex Premier League has had its constraints for one rival manager.

Graham Kemp, pictured, who’s set for a new chapter with Bemerton Heath Harlequins, says he has no problems with the newly-founded Whites but their kudos has created transfer market dilemmas.

“I’ve no gripes with Salisbury but them coming into the league has made my job harder than ever.

“I’ve contacted around 30 players this season about signing and their responses have been 'I’m going to Salisbury'.”

“I wanted to bring back Kane O’Keefe and Danny Young but they chose Salisbury.”

“I’ve signed experienced Wessex League players as we need consistency. They’ve got the desire.

“Overall, it’s been a smooth transition.”

A busy shopping spree has seen an influx of players join and depart Western Way but the influential likes of skipper Jack Slade and Graham Mankin have stayed put.

Kemp is relishing the prospect of a first full season in charge of Harlequins in a division which he reckons is the strongest it’s been for 10 years,

“I’m pleased with what we’ve got,” he said.

“It’s very difficult, virtually impossible, to go from 13th place right up to first. We’d like to challenge the likes of Salisbury FC and Blackfield and Langley.

“We need to be realistic and the Wessex League is as strong as it has been for 10 years.”

Kemp’s without Danny Steer and George Plank through suspension – carried over from last season – and Dan Thompson, who is away with work, tomorrow night.

They go to Folland Sports, whose manager – Jay Keating – was sacked after three months in charge.

“The chairman asked me for a reference of Jay before he was appointed, and I was honest.

“It’s going to be an interesting conversation after the game,” he joked.

Kick off at Folland Park is 7.45pm.
