GARETH Horner is urging the city to drum up support and be up for the FA Cup when two rivals face off in the extra preliminary round on Saturday (3pm).

The Amesbury Town head coach is hoping for a big turnout when his Blues welcome Bemerton Heath Harlequins with a place in the next round at stake.

They are the only two Salisbury-based sides to compete in the competition and for the cash prize of £1,500.

Salisbury FC have no game at the weekend and Horner hopes those fans will turn out to Bonnymead Park for the tie.

“Our attention now turns to the local FA Cup derby against Bemerton. What more could you ask for?”

“We obviously will go into the game as underdogs and we know that Graham Kemp (Bemerton manager) has assembled a good side so we will have to be at our best if we are to stand a chance.”

“I hope the local community get out and support both teams as it’s the only local FA Cup fixture this weekend.”

The Blues opened their account with a captivating 3-3 draw at home to Division One newbies AFC Stoneham.

The one-hour delay to kick off, due to an accident on the A303, startled the home side as they found themselves coming from behind three times.

Cameron Roach (2) and Adam Pearson got on the scoresheet for the Blues against Stoneham, who were reduced to ten men as the game wore on.

Horner added: “Saturday was tough, given that the kick off was delayed by an hour due to an accident on the A303 and the lads were sat around for quite some time.

“It’s a point on the board and I wouldn’t be surprised if AFC Stoneham finished towards the top end of the league this year.”
