BRAGGING rights and a cash prize were the rewards for Bemerton Heath Harlequins after advancing to the next stage of the FA Cup.

The 2-1 win came with a cheque for £1,500 and a tie in the preliminary round at Blackfield and Langley, 4-3 winners over Team Solent, on August 29.

The winner will pocket a further £1,925 in prize money and progress to the first round qualifying.

Graham Kemp’s men continued their flying start to the new campaign at Bonnymead Park thanks to second half goals.

Skipper Jack Slade, who missed the back end of last term and used the summer to nurse a knee injury, slotted home the opener two minutes into the second period.

And as the game wore on, newboy, Russell Cook, converted his third goal in Bemerton colours to put the game out of sight.

Nic Turpin gave Blues a glimmer of hope after heading home a consolation in the 87th minute.

Gareth Horner’s men kept on plugging away in search of a replay but the orange-coloured visitors held firm.

And Bemerton maintained their 100 per cent winning record in the Wessex Premier after thrashing Verwood Town 4-1 on Tuesday night.

Slade netted in a second consecutive game for the opener before his side were awarded a penalty and the Potters' keeper, Max Brimson, was dismissed.

The penalty was saved but Tom Roberts converted the rebound.

Liam Donachy offered a lifeline for then ten-man visitors before Tom Jeffes and Will Robinson added their names to the scoresheet at Western Way.
