A CONVERTED spot kick wrecked Downton's unbeaten start to Wessex Division One at the hands of Andover New Street.

The decisive moment came on the hour mark when Liam Wilkins was bundled over in the area and referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

Harry Burt stepped up and belted past Charlie Aldridge in the visiting rearguard.

Declan McGregor went though one on one with the keeper but was brought down on the edge of the box when he looked destined to score and, then, Ben Smith had an excellent header cleared off the line.

Boss Colin Hopkins said: "Andover New Street is a very difficult place to go and win three points, they packed out the midfield making it hard for us to get any fluency with our passing.

"However, we defended very well against their direct style and ultimately the game was decided by our error.

"We now go to East Cowes Victoria on Saturday where nothing but a win will do to ensure we remain in the top half of the table".
