IT was a fruitful trip to the Isle of Wight for Downton FC who continued their flying start to the season.

Ben Smith, Sam Howe, Dan Telfer and Harry Crisp were on target to secure a 4-1 victory for the Robins over East Cowes Victoria in Wessex Division One.

But for the first ten minutes, Robins were under the cosh and could have found themselves trailing if it wasn't for an excellent save from Charlie Aldridge and resolute defending.

Robins, later, found their stride and a firm header from assistant manager Smith gave the visitors a one-goal cushion.

Shortly after Telfer delivered an excellent corner to Skipper Dan Newman who headed across the goal for Howe to tap in from close range to take Downton into a 2-0 lead at the interval.

Within two minutes of the restart, Matthew Woods pulled one back for the hosts.

And then they could have been on level terms when Howe handled inside the are but the resulting penalty was blazed over.

The let off acted as an alarm call for the visitors as Telfer wriggled free in the area to score with a clinical right-footed finish.

Changes were then made with Tom Aldridge and Crisp replacing TJ Moseley and Ross Bentall, with the fresh legs causing ECV's defence plenty of problems.

And and an free-flowing move resulted in Crisp finding the back of the net to make it 4.1.

Manager Colin Hopkins said: "Last week when we came up against Andover New Street was a game we should have won but Saturday was a good all round performance.

"There were some excellent individual performances but for me Dan Telfer was instrumental in us winning with a fantastic goal and three assists."
