EYE-CATCHING Danny Finnigan posted his third brace in four league games to recall a satisfying 2-0 victory for unbeaten Amesbury Town.

The striking ace increased his goal tally to seven for the campaign after capitalising in with efforts in either half at Bonnymead Park.

His efforts coupled with a sound defence performance boosts Blues, who are the only team not to be beaten in Wessex Division One, into fourth.

The towering forward converted his first of the afternoon in the 24th minute after a defensive mix-up.

A Matt Cox free-kick was headed into the danger zone by Adam Pearson and Finnigan had the sharpest of reactions to bundle the ball over the line.

Cameron Roach went close for the home side with an effort that was parried by gloveman Tom Rees.

But they didn't have to wait long for a second.

Seven minutes into the restart Connor Millar threaded Finnigan through on goal and he kept his nerve to finish beyond Rees with aplomb.

Finnigan had all eyes on the match ball when he went close late on following Dan Beckles' assist, but his scuffed will see him wait a little longer for his maiden hat trick.

"Danny has started the season well and scored two good goals Saturday but if you were to ask him he could have had a hat trick by half time," said manager Gareth Horner.

"He scored his two hardest chances but the lads around him worked their socks off and the back five were outstanding and that's another clean sheet which is pleasing."

"Eleven points from a possible 15 is not a bad return especially when you look at the start we have had so we can't be anything but happy."

Saturday sees Amesbury travel to second placed United Services Portsmouth (3pm).
