BROTHERS Adam and Russell Jones stunned an ill-tempered Cowes Sports as "fantastic" Laverstock and Ford progressed to the first round proper of the FA Vase.

Second half strikes from the siblings proved enough for Lavvy to eliminate the islanders, who are one league above in Wessex Premier, to set up a tie with heavyweights Sholing FC.

Paving their way to cup glory, an electric hosts threatened Cowes' goal towards the back end of the first half as Archie Lovegrove and Tom Mundy went close.

At the other end, the visitors scared Lavvy by rattling the upright.

But in the 54th minute, the deadlock was broken by Adam.

He profited from a defensive error and unleashed an audacious lob some 30 yards from goal over Edward Hatt, who he spotted off his line, which nestled into the top corner.

Cowes had to chase the game at the expense of leaving gaps and forced blocked efforts from an ever-alert Alexis Aguer in Lavvy's goalmouth.

The wide-open game worked in home side's favour as they reaped the benefits six minutes from time.

Russell skilfully flew past the defender before driving a rocket into the bottom corner for vase victory.

Cowes' frustration were evident in the final stages after marksman Charlie Smeeton was given his marching orders from a second yellow card.

"We were absolutely fantastic today. Every one of the players should be proud of their performance and what they achieved," lauded joint head coach Robbie Lakeman.

"Cowes are no mugs and have a good experienced side who are mid table of the league above us but we stepped up to the mark and showed exactly how good we can be. Adam's strike was as good as you will see and gave us something to defend and build on."

"We now need to continue our form and take it into every game whether it cup or league."
