BEMERTON Heath Harlequins dropped outside of the top six places in Sydenhams Wessex Premier following a "poor" performance at home to Cowes Sports.

They were thumped 5-1 by the division newcomers, just four days after bagging six goals at Alresford Town on their travels.

John McKie and Jordan Browne gave Cowes a two-goal cushion before hope was restored when Graham Mankin reduced the arrears from the penalty spot following a foul on Jack Slade.

But, just 30 seconds after the restart, Cowes doubled their advantage again, this time Dexter Malin with it.

Two more goals came in the fashion of McKie and Brown to complete their braces and heap misery on the Western Way outfit.

"It was a poor performance to say the least," admitted boss Graham Kemp.

"Credit to Cowes for doing a job on us but we need to find some consistency if we are going to compete at the top of this league.

"To many of us were off it and we need to be much much better if we are going to stay in the top six where we think we should be."
