FIVE-STAR Bemerton Heath Harlequins reserved their place in the second round of the Russell Cotes Cup after destroying former Football League outfit Aldershot Town.

Heath made amends for the disappointing defeat on Saturday as they prevailed with a 5-0 victory over Shots' young guns.

Despite missing forwards Jack Slade and Russell Cook, Heath's Graham Mankin and Lewis Cook bagged braces in what was a fine night at Western Way.

Graham Kemp's game plan of stifling the hosts took immediate effect, Graham Mankin broke the deadlock after picking up a long ball before taking a touch and rifling a left-footed volley into the top corner.

Aldershot were probing but, with the tactics to deny them any space in the hosts' half, were reduced to long balls that were coped with.

Bemerton carved chances of their own and doubled their lead in the second period, Mankin rising highest from a corner and nodding home from 10 yards.

A two nil gap soon became four when Lewis Cook went up front and was rewarded with a quickfire double.

Then James Burden scored to seal the win which could've been more when Mankin, with the last play of the game, nearly got the hat trick he deserved, but instead his header ricocheted off the crossbar.

Kemp said: "It was a very good performance and our discipline was very very good.

"It's always nice to get a clean sheet as we've struggled with them this season but I'm not going to get carried away and we need to take this into Saturday's game where there are points at stake."
