SALISBURY FC avoided a potential cup upset by crushing Wiltshire foes Calne Town in the first round proper of the FA Vase.

Steve Claridge's charges made a full recovery from last week's league wobble at home to Blackfield and Langley with a 6-2 triumph.

But the Wessex Premier leaders' 250 travelling supporters at Bremhill View weren't put at ease until the second half, when they a delivered a four-goal romp.

Before then, Whites came from behind in the 17th minute when Aaron Hopkins unleashed a swirling shot into the top corner.

Then, two goals in the space of 60 seconds gave Whites some breathing space. Brandon Mundy drilled home before seeing a second strike cannon off the post, but Kane O'Keefe

was their to slot in the rebound.

Calne – nicknamed the Lillywhites – got back on level terms six minutes before the interval when Steve Walker lost possession and Stuart Windsor got the better of Calum Brockway to steer past Gareth Barfoot at the near post.

Salisbury raised their game in the second half and pull away from the hosts inside five minutes.

Danny Young accelerated down the flank and crossed for Sam Wilson, then Tom Whelan's cross was guided into the back of the net by O'Keefe to claim his second.

Amesbury-living Robbie Matthews emerged from the bench with 20 minutes remaining, providing a calm finish to power the Whites into a 5-2 advantage.

Ashley Jarvis and Jack Maloney were also brought into the action, and it was the former who made the net bulge with a blasting volley deep into stoppage time to inflict a heavy defeat on the Western League Division one strugglers.
