TALISMAN Danny Finnigan came to Amesbury Town's rescue as he fired a stoppage-time winner to secure a much-deserved 3-2 victory over Totton and Eling.

He ensured Blues rallied back from a two-goal margin to fire a hat-trick, saving the best to last in the 95th minute.

In the wake of the goal, an ill-tempered Totton finished the dramatic ending with ten men.

The victory sees Blues maintain the pressure on leaders Portland United, cutting the gap at the the Sydenhams Wessex League Division One summit to four points.

Boss Gareth Horner said: "We asked the players for a reaction and we got one."

"As with Saturday, we started brightly on Tuesday night and could have been two up in the first15 minutes but we found ourselves two down shortly after having made further errors defensively.

"We rallied and got back to 2-2 at the break, dominated the second half but had to wait until injury time for the winner."

"Disappointingly we found ourselves two down after making some decisive errors in the defensive third which we must eradicate. That said great credit to the players for plugging on until the very end and obtaining what I felt was a well-deserved three points."

Blues host Christchurch in the Wessex League Cup on Saturday (3pm).
