PLAYER/ASSISTANT manager Ben Smith twice levelled for Downton FC in a 2-2 wrangle with New Milton Town.

Central defender Smith notched up the first equaliser from a set piece after Downton's defence mistimed the offside trap which allowed the visitors' Shane Sheridan to nip in and blast beyond Charlie Aldridge.

Harry Crisp caused the visitors all kinds of problems in the second half but still fell behind following a goalmouth scramble, Dominic Falco appearing to get the final touch.

Smith popped up again with a trademark header to ensure Downton shared the spoils in Sydenhams Wessex League Division One on Tuesday night.

Colin Hopkins said: "The game was very similar to our performance on Saturday; we started slow but very much improved in the second half.

"Ben Smith was once again outstanding and the reason we, fortunately, preserved our strong home record, having only lost once in the league this season."
