A LUCKLESS day in Hampshire resulted in Laverstock and Ford's promotion hopes taking a wobble at Tadley Calleva.

Brett Denham's quickfire double, coupled with James Tennant's strike, consigned Lavvy to a 3-0 defeat in Sydenhams Wessex Division One.

Things got off to a dreadful start for the visitors inside three minutes when Lewis Wykes hobbled off.

Soon after, however, Lavvy found their stride, dominating possession and testing the home back line. Russ Jones thought he had scored the opener midway through the first 45 minutes, looping in his effort only to be denied by a very late offside flag.

Nonetheless, the game turned on the 35th minute when Denham dodged three challenges before rifling home the first goal.

Things went from bad to worse three minutes later as Denham was left free to run in on goal to beat Alexis Aguer from an acute angle.

Laverstock came out looking to cut the deficit but despite the pressure, a quick break away led to Tennant scoring a third.

Despite Russ Jones heading against the upright and several attempts blocked, Lavvy could not find a way through on a frustrating afternoon.

Joint managers Robbie Lakeman Liam McConnell told JournalSport: "It's a tough one to take, the lads worked very hard and really were undone by Tadley's only three chances of the game. We missed several players but credit to the lads who did play, the work ethic and football at times was fantastic, it was just one of those days where hard work just didn't pay off."
