GARETH Horner has vowed to keep "everyone focused" at Amesbury Town as he bids to mastermind promotion.

The Blues occupy second place in Sydenhams Wessex Division One, knowing if they finish in the top three they will be promoted.

They currently trail leaders Portland United but have a game in hand at the midway point.

A miserable March last season saw them slip out of the title race but Horner believes it will be second time lucky for the Bonnymead Park outfit.

"We have lost a lot of players in terms of injuries, suspensions, holidays and work commitments over the past few weeks so have had to bring in one or two but hopefully in the next fortnight or so we will be back to full-strength, or very close to it."

"That takes us to the halfway point in the season and if we repeat the first half we will not be far off the promotion spots. That said we were in the same position last year so we are trying to keep everyone focused."

Blues' first league game on Saturday for more than three weeks ended in a 3-2 win over Ringwood Town.

Cameron Roach put the hosts ahead inside three minutes. Then, two goals in two minutes from Danny Finnigan, who turned home Kieran Stephen's cross, and Roach created clear daylight between the sides.

Ringwood sparked a second half revival through Sean Leadbetter and Josiah Purdue before both sides finished with ten men.

Leadbetter reacted to Connor Palmer's tackle and both were given their marching orders by referee Bruce Waymark.

Horner added: "We were obviously delighted with the result on Saturday. It has proved to be a difficult period with the weather and very much stop-start and it's really hard to gain any momentum. We were fantastic for 42 minutes and then conceded a really sloppy goal just before half time which seemed to ignite Ringwood. It made the second half a little more uncomfortable than what it should have been."

Amesbury were informed this week that their game with Downton last month, which was abandoned after 66 minutes due to Adam Pearson shoving the referee after being dismissed, won't be replayed and the Robins, who were 1-0 up, will receive the points.
