LAVERSTOCK and Ford stretched their unbeaten home record to 18 matches as derby day with fellow promotion contenders Amesbury Town ended all square.

James Clifton's opener was cancelled out by Danny Finnigan in Sydenhams Wessex Division One.

A cagey opening exchanges saw little created by either side. Josh Thomas came the closest with a header for the visitors which was tipped onto the bar by Alexis Aguer.

The second half was more open and on 60 minutes the home side broke the deadlock.

The league's top scorer Russ Jones turned provider with a pinpoint cross which was buried by James Clifton.

Amesbury made several attacking changes as they pressed for a leveller, which came 15 minutes later.

A long throw hurled into the area was flicked into the path of Finnigan, who was on hand to turn home the equaliser.

Laverstock co-manager Liam McConnell said: "Normally you would view that as a good point earned against one of the promotion favourites but in the scheme of things, and the chance we have given ourselves, this season it feels like two dropped.

"Perhaps we could have done a little more, but we defended well against their long game and upon reflection a draw was probably a fair result.

Blues head coach Gareth Horner said: " The first half was a nothing event really. No side settled into the game and you could see that neither side wanted to make a mistake which led to a cagey opening 45 minutes.

"On reflection I think Laverstock will be slightly happier with the point than we were as I thought we had created enough to win the game. That said we would have settled for a point before the game given there fantastic record at home."
