EVEN a deluge of biblical proportions failed to dampen Laverstock's spirits as they overcame a dogged Pewsey to win 3-0 at a rain sodden Dell on Saturday.

Following a midweek victory at Romsey, the hosts knew they could reclaim second spot in Wessex Division One with a victory against a side who proved frustrating during the 0-0 reverse fixture earlier in the season.

With first choice stopper Alexis Aguer absent, Acer Burton played his first game in over three months in a side which also had skipper Phil Morgan missing through suspension.

The first half was like the weather, a drab affair. Rob Gallagher came the closest to opening the scoring after 31 minutes, his volley brilliantly saved by the Pewsey keeper.

Laverstock came out fully charged in the second period, and top scorer Russ Jones was the man who broke the deadlock on 55 minutes, weaving his way into the box before coolly clipping the ball home.

With the weather getting progressively worse Pewsey almost equalised following a looping effort which came back off the bar and, with the goal gaping, Spencer Horton's last ditch tackle denied what seemed a definite goal.

That seemed to inspire Lavvy and with 18 minutes left on the clock they doubled their lead when Lovegrove's delicate pass into the box found Adam Bourner who finished first time to score his first goal for the club. With the game approaching the final whistle, substitute Sam O'Hagan showed magical footwork to outfox the keeper and smash home his first senior goal in four years.

Laverstock moved back to second spot in the table following the win with third placed Amesbury Town back in action tonight away at Romsey Town.
