LAVERSTOCK and Ford suffered a heartbreaking end to their Sydenhams Wessex Division One campaign.

A stoppage time for Hythe & Dibden saw Lavvy's 20-match unbeaten streak fall apart in a 3-2 defeat.

Things got off to a tricky start for Lavvy as they went 2-0 down inside ten minutes.

But the home side's resolve showed and Rob Gallagher was on hand to halve the deficit 14 minutes before the break.

Russell Jones provided an instinct finish - his 28th of the season - to level things on 52 minutes.

For the rest of the half, Laverstock went close on a number of occasions but couldn't get past the visiting custodian.

And with time ticking away, Lavvy were caught on the break as they piled numbers forward and conceded.

"That was a tough moment trying to pick the lads up after that loss," lamented joint manager Liam McConnell.

"On the whole, the season has been a big step forward but we seemed to just tire in the last five games.

"We were challenging Amesbury for second spot and were right in the mix, I can't express my thanks to the players for their efforts. This is a young side full of talent so Rob (Lakeman) and I are incredibly excited by next season and achieving the targets we set."

Lavvy are in the Hospital Cup Final at the Ray Mac on Tuesday (May 10).
