AMESBURY Town ended their FA Cup hoodoo after winning their extra preliminary round clash at Sherborne Town 2-0.

At the fifth time of asking, Blues defied the odds over the Western League Premier Division outfit thanks to goals from Danny Field and Tyler Brockway.

After a goalless first half, Field, playing at left back, broke the deadlock on 75 minutes with a curling effort from outside the box which nestled into the top corner.

And five minutes from the end Brockway added a second with a header.

Amesbury boss Jim Macey said: "It was a great result in the FA Cup for everyone at the club - I'm well pleased."

Their reward is a home tie in the preliminary round on Saturday, August 20 (3pm) with league rivals Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

Graham Kemp's men got through their home tie with Keynsham Town thanks to a scorching free-kick from newcomer Jacob Rawkins.

But there is no second tie for Laverstock and Ford who crashed out at Brockenhurst in which new signing Graham Mankin was hospitalised in a 2-1 defeat.

Ryan Long had got the Badgers off to a flying start with a well-taken goal before Lavvy restored parity before the break.

The visitors did enough to go ahead in the second half but, against the run of play, fell behind for the second time in the match.

Long was on hand to double their lead, and it would have been three had Mark Barker converted a spot kick which was awarded soon after.

Drama was still yet to come as Mankin was left a casualty of a late challenge and subsequently sustained ruptured ligaments in his shoulder and is set to be sidelined for six to eight weeks. In the midst of the incident, manager Liam McConnell was sent to the stands.
