SHARP-SHOOTING Russell Jones soared to the top of the Sydenhams Wessex Division One goal chart after grabbing the winner in Laverstock and Ford's 1-0 derby victory over Downton.

The marksman, who scored five of Lavvy's nine goals at Alton, netted the winner on 14 minutes, tucking home Rob Gallagher's set-up.

That took him to 12 for the season and sees Lavvy maintain their 100 per cent record and locked on equal points as leaders Hamble Club.

Lavvy dominated the first half with Joe Sanger being denied once by the impressive Charlie Aldridge in goal and then the crossbar. Harry Hale almost scored a rocket, his effort was top corner bound only for Aldridge to tip away.

The second half saw an improved Downton performance, a double substitution by ex-Laverstock boss Rae Hughes saw them pose a more potent threat.

And Ageur had to be alert to push away a close-range effort.

But despite their pressing, the hosts stood firm and took the bragging rights.

Joint Lavvy manager Liam McConnell said: "We had to bring the lads down to earth after Saturday's win, a derby is a totally different game altogether.

"We should have been out of sight with the way we played in the first half, but credit to Downton for staying in the game and they stepped it up in that second half, their league form speaks for itself.

"It was a frustrating night, however, the game was a big occasion played at a frantic pace and at times some of the decisions awarded were questionable I think both would agree that point.

"I'm pleased to get that one out of the way."

Downton go to Hamble on Saturday while Lavvy travel to Folland Sports.
