LAVERSTOCK and Ford got back to winning ways in Sydenhams Wessex Division One on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Pewsey Vale.

In a drab first half of little chances, Laverstock found themselves behind on the half hour mark through a Craig Simmons header.

The visitors came out much-improved in the second half and drew level, Adam Jones finishing in the 57th minute.

Ten minutes later, Jones turned provider, his out-swinging free kick was met by Tom Mundy who bundled home from close range.

Co-manager Liam McConnell said: "We were all unimpressed with that performance. We were far below our standards in that first half and the boys were given a 'gentle reminder' at half time of that fact.

"Credit to the boys, though, they woke up and did enough to earn the three points in that second 45 minutes."

Neighbours Downton also picked up a priceless victory on the road, putting Andover New Street to the sword with a 4-1 triumph with braces in either half.

Shaun Prentice got the Robins off to a flying start when slotting home after three minutes.

Paul Gulliver provided a smart finish in a one-on-one scenario to double his side's lead.

After the restart, Declan McGregor was upended in the box and assistant manager, Ben Smith, dispatched the spot kick.

McGregor later added a fourth before their hopes of a clean sheet were scuppered when Jaydyn Englefield smashed home a penalty in stoppage time.

Happy Downton manager Rae Hughes said: "Very pleased to get three points. "The lads played well and, on another day, it could have been double figures. I was disappointed at times in the first half with the sloppiness of our play but overall a confidence-boosting win which also allowed a few players, who haven't been playing much, to get much-needed minutes."
