JIM Macey has been reinstated as manager of Amesbury Town 48 hours after quitting.

The Blues boss resigned from his post after Saturday’s 1-0 win at Newport (IOW). Cameron George’s strike recorded their first win on the road for two months, lifting them up to 14th in Wessex Premier Division.

That was set to be Macey’s last game in charge.

At the time, he said the “club are unable to fund expenses for players and myself and unfortunately, as many of us travel from all areas, I am left with no choice but to call it a day”.

And the sudden departure meant Blues were forced to postpone their midweek clash with Bournemouth Poppies.

However, after attending a committee meeting at Bonnymead Park on Monday night, which lasted nearly three hours, Macey agreed to stay on until the end of the season.

He said: “After long discussions, it has been agreed that I will stay on as manager at Amesbury.

“The club are looking at ways of getting things right off the pitch and some top people at the club are working hard and fighting my corner and wanting me to stay. The side is new and now starting to gel. Hopefully we can all move forward and put this behind us.”

Chairman Steve Pearce, whose club have been named as a finalist for the Journal Sports Awards on Friday night, says he’s glad the situation has been resolved.
