BEMERTON Heath Harlequins stormed into the last 64 of the FA Vase after winning their second round replay with Cullompton Rangers 3-2.

The Western Way outfit burst out of the blocks as they found themselves with a 2-0 ahead in the opening 16 minutes thanks to goals from Jon Blake and Jack Slade.

After the break, Tom Beddow reduced the arrears from the spot before Blake notched his second to restore Bemerton’s two-goal cushion.

Marcus Fanson scored in the final 10 minutes to set-up a nerve-jangling finale but Bemerton hung on to book a third round tie at home to Melksham Town, from the Western League Premier Division, on Saturday, December 3.

Happy and frustrated boss Graham Kemp, whose side have suffered just one defeat in their last 15 games, said: “At 2-0, we were in total control and then an inexplicable handball gave them a penalty. “We got comfortable at 3-1 and then handed them a second. If we want to seriously challenge for things this season we need to shut up shop and see out games more professionally.”

Tuesday night’s replay was forced as Rich Jackson struck a late leveller in Devon on Saturday.

n BEMERTON are back in Sydenhams Wessex Premier action on Saturday.

Their trip to Lymington has been reversed and they will host the fixture at Western Way (3pm).
