A RAMPANT Laverstock and Ford knocked out Wiltshire Senior Cup holders Melksham Town with a 4-1 thumping in Tuesday night's second round tie.

Russ Jones opened the scoring on 16 minutes with a typically cool finish after a good team move.

Mike Perrott equalised on the half hour mark as it was honours even at the break.

The first ten minutes of the second half were keenly-contested before James Vince smashed an unstoppable volley past the Melksham keeper to put the hosts in the driving seat.

This allowed Lavvy to take control of the game and stretch their lead further when Graham Mankin powered home a header from an Archie Lovegrove corner on 72 minutes.

The emphatic scoreline was complete when James Clifton rounded off a quick counter attack on 86 minutes.

Co-managers Robbie Lakeman and Liam McConnell said: "Tonight was all about putting Saturday's disappointment behind us and as a squad performing back at the levels we know we can. All credit to the lads as they certainly did that and put a good side to the sword in the process."

Lavvy will discover who they face in the quarter-finals in upcoming weeks.
