A JAMIE Waters strike recorded Downton's first away win in over two months.

The frontman struck the winner on 25 minutes, a set piece which evaded everyone, to pick up a much-needed 1-0 win for the Robins over Weymouth Reserves in Sydenhams Wessex Division One.

Charlie Aldridge came to the visitors' rescue at times in the second half as the custodian pulled off a string of fine saves.

New signing Kieran Osman should have wrapped things up in a one-on-one situation before Shaun Prentice was denied by the upright.

Boss Rae Hughes said: "I am really pleased for the lads, we had a game plan and the boys stuck to it and played really well.

"Weymouth are a good side, so to come away with a positive result is very satisfying.

"We have been a bit inconsistent in recent weeks so hopefully we can build on this and get another good run going over the Christmas period."

Robins, up to 10th in the table, host Totton Eling at Wick Lane on Saturday (3pm).
