LAVERSTOCK and Ford have been overtaken at the top of Sydenhams Wessex Division One after a shock 1-0 defeat to Andover New Street.

Luke Cairney's strike on 26 minutes condemned Lavvy, who had two players dismissed late on, to their fourth defeat of the campaign as they slipped into second. They are now one point behind leaders Hamble Club, who have two games in hand.

Lavvy created several half chances in the opening quarter before they fell behind.

Despite heavy pressure and significant possession, the visitors remained frustrated and were kept at bay on numerous occasions by the home side's custodian and back line.

And things went from bad to worse with 12 minutes remaining when a mistimed challenge on Jamie Smith sparked a 22-man melee.

In the wake of the incident, Smith and Joe Sanger were dismissed as Lavvy finished with nine men.

Co-Managers Liam McConnell and Robbie Lakeman said: "It's one of those games as a manager you just wish you'll never experience.

"We dominated the entire game, were dealt some crazy decisions against us and conceded a soft goal on a rare break and we just looked unsure of ourselves in front of goal which was a first for us.

"Of course, it's a set back but let's see how we bounce back starting on Saturday."

They host East Cowes Victoria (3pm).
